MUCUNA Organic (Mucuna Pruriens) Freshly Harvested Amazon POWDER

Mucuna pruriens is popularly known as Velvet Bean or Alkushi, it is a plant traditionally used in Indian Medicine that belongs to the legume family. Mucuna pruriens seed is a natural source of the amino acid L-3,4-dihydroxy phenyl alanine (L-DOPA), the direct precursor of the neurotransmitter dopamine that is widely used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Serotonin, oxytryptan, nicotine, N, N-DMT, and bufotenine with the other active ingredients found in Mucuna pruriens in addition to L-DOPA.

According to ancient Ayurvedic literature, Mucuna has been used since ascestral times as a powerful aphrodisiac, geriatric tonic and vermifuge. It is also used for the treatment of menstruation disorders, constipation, edema, fever, tuberculosis, etc.

Ayurvedic traditional doctors in ancient India first used Mucuna seeds in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease more than 4,500 years ago. This plant has one of the most fascinating chemical profiles on earth. It contains many interesting alkaloids that have profound actions on the human nervous system.

It is one of the most popular medicinal plants in India and is a constituent of over 200 indigenous drug formulations. It is widespread and found on the plains of India. Demand for Mucuna in India, as well as in international markets, increased markedly once the presence of L-3,4-dihydroxy phenyl alanine (L-DOPA), a compound used in the disease, was discovered in Mucuna seeds. Parkinson’s disease.

Active ingredients of Mucuna pruriens.
Mucuna pruriens seeds contain high concentrations of L-DOPA, a rare non-protein amino acid and a direct precursor to the neurotransmitter dopamine, an important brain chemical involved in mood, sexuality, and movement. In addition, it also contains other amino acids, glutathione, lecithin, gallic acid and beta sitosterol. The mature seeds of the plant contain about 3.1 to 6.1% L-DOPA, with traces of 5-hydroxy tryptamine (serotonin), nicotine, dimethyl tryptamine (DMT), bufotenine, 5-MeO-DMT and beta -carboline. The leaves contain about 0.5% L-DOPA, 0.006% demethyl tryptamine, and 0.0025% 5-MeO-DMT.

The seed is a source of minerals. According to Ayurveda, the seeds are astringent, laxative, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac, alexidharmic (an antidote against poison or infection) and tonic. Seeds have been found to possess antidepressant properties in cases of depressive neurosis, and seed powder formulations have shown promise in the management and treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Potential applications
– Anti-Parkinson’s activity
The clinical syndrome of parkinsonism was identified in ancient India, even before the time of Christ, and was methodically treated. In the classical 15th-century text Bhasava Rajyam the term “kampavata” was used as an Ayurvedic analogue of Parkinson’s disease. In this text it is mentioned that parkinsonism (kampavata) was treated by administering the powdered seeds of Mucuna pruriens (containing natural L-DOPA).

The most current studies, such as those of Hussian and Manyam, indicate that for the dose used, Mucuna pruriens shows twice the anti-parkinsonian activity of synthetic L-DOPA.

In a clinical study, Nagashayana et al revealed the contribution of L-DOPA in the recovery of Parkinson’s disease followed by Ayurveda medication.

Katzenschlager et al revealed that 30 grams of Mucuna seed powder preparation has considerably faster action in treating patients with Parkinson’s disease than conventional standard drugs, namely levodopa or carbidopa, and suggested that the natural source of L-DOPA could have advantages over conventional drugs in the long-term management of Parkinson’s disease.

– Hypoglycemic activity
Using a combination of chromatographic and NMR techniques, the presence of D-chiro-inositol and its two galacto derivatives of antiglycemic effect was demonstrated in the seeds of Mucuna pruriens.

The hypoglycemic effect of the aqueous extract of the seeds of Mucuna pruriens was investigated under normal conditions of glucose loading

– Aphrodisiac activity
Shukla and Mahdi demonstrated that oral administration of 5 grams of Mucuna seed powder once daily to men with decreased sperm count and motility improved psychological stress and peroxide levels in seminal plasma fluid, in addition to improve sperm count and motility. The study also concluded that Mucuna pruriens not only reactivates the antioxidant defense mechanism, but also aids in stress management and improves semen quality.
