Matsés They are indigenous to a tribe of the Amazon jungle on the border between Peru and Brazil. Owners of one of the most extensive territories that has been titled in favor of an indigenous people in Peru, occupy 452,735 hectares, covered by the Native Community Matsés. It is estimated that there are currently 2,600 people living in the Yavarí Valley that covers parts of Peru and Brazil. In Peru, in the Loreto Region, Requena Province, Yaquerana District, between the Yavarí River, the Yaquerana River, and the Gálvez River.
The word matsés means ‘people of the river’
The Yaquerana River runs through the heart of your land and marks the international border that separates your home.
But for the matsés, the streams, the alluvial plains and the white sand jungles form an ancestral territory shared by the whole tribe.
